- Jacopo Taccari The transformation of sporting complexes into public infrastructure has long shaped Western urban life, from ancient arenas to modern stadiums — monumental structures embedded in our collective sense of scale and identity. The project sits in Geneva's Jonction neighborhood, named for the confluence of the Rhône and Arve. A velodrome built for the 1896 National Exhibition once stood here, demolished after just twenty-one years to make way for workers' housing. In 1906, a tram depot took its place — still operating today, approaching its 120th anniversary. As the Jonction is reimagined as a public park, the project reintroduces the velodrome, grafting it onto the still-functioning bus depot. The intervention preserves ongoing operations while activating the riverfront with a new public tribune, built from steel trusses reclaimed from the depot as it is dismantled.
